National Women’s Team world championship gold medalist is proud to help develop opportunities that didn’t exist for her when she was chasing her own hockey dreams. That’s where she met her future wife Sara who accepted a job in Florida which brought them to the area. Steadman spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Mercyhurst University where she also played her collegiate hockey. I’ve gotten to know a lot of great people in the (Lightning) organization and everyone is really focused on girl’s hockey being the next big thing here. We’re trying our best to continue to help it grow and we’re in a good spot to do that. Two weeks ago we had 80 girls on the ice for a clinic, and that was pretty eye opening of just how big the sport has become here. “It’s just been really nice to see the turnout. “It’s obviously grown a lot here in the last couple of years, especially girl’s hockey,” she said. Steadman says that speaks volumes to how much the game is growing in Florida. The event was sponsored by Sailun Tire, and registration for all 40 spots filled up in less than a day. ![]() We did a little clinic with some stations and some games and the girls had a ton of fun.” “We had about five of our staff and then a bunch of the PHF girls. On Saturday, Steadman led an on-ice skills clinic for youth at AdventHealth Center Ice, joined by a group of current PHF stars from among the final four teams who took some time between the preliminary round and semifinals of the Isobel Cup Playoffs to give back to the host community. While her playing days are behind her, the 31-year-old from Plattsburgh, NY continues to be a role model for young girls as a Hockey Development Ambassador with the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Community Hockey department. Premier Hockey Federation fans will remember her as a Founding Four star over two seasons with the Buffalo Beauts from 2015-17 where she helped build professional women’s hockey into what it is today. ![]() Growing the game is nothing new to Kelley Steadman.
